poiesis

Meeting new faces and figures…expressing the IMAGO.

What is an IMAGO PORTRAIT ? A portrait reflecting the divine image, a expression of being of אָדָם רִאשׁוֹן …consider, POIESIS…. the artistic portrayal of subjects within a specific historical or cultural context, or a portrait that looks through the figure produced by a distinctive and creative post-processing of a capture.

The poiesis of photography is basically the creative side of making images—how I turn pictures into something meaningful and visually engaging, not just something you look at and move on from. It’s where technical skill and creativity come together to create an experience for the viewer. An iMagination of wonder.

Poiesis in photography is about going beyond just snapping a picture. Instead of only capturing what’s already there, the I actively shape the image—choosing what to include, what to leave out, and how to present it. This could mean reframing a shot, editing it, or reworking the composition in a way that gives it a new feel or meaning.

It’s also about blending the technical and the conceptual. I might take something with history or deeper meaning and bring it to life visually through intentional creative choices. The end result isn’t just an image—it’s something that pulls the viewer in and makes them feel or think differently, connecting ideas, emotions, and culture.

At its core, poiesis in photography is all about creation—how to take what we see and turn it into something new, shaping the way we experience and understand the world through images.
